A Destructoid blogger has just posted a scan of the latest issue of GameInformer magazine that reveals that there will be drums in Guitar Hero 4. The drums only have three pads (compared to the Rock Band drums’ four) but they have two elevated cymbals on the kit. The scanned article also states that in Guitar Hero 4, you can make a band with guitar, bass, drums, and vocals (what an intuitive idea!). Although there was little mention of the vocals on the page, the article stated that the drums are of much better quality and make less noise (an extra year of development can do wonders).
But is anyone really surprised by all of this? Activision knew they had to do something to change the Guitar Hero franchise because all of the hype is now towards Rock Band. Whenever hardcore gamers talk about Guitar Hero, it’s always about its faults (lack of DLC, stupid boss battles, etc.). By making this announcement, they are bringing back some attention to the Guitar Hero franchise.
And before you angry Rock Band fanboys scream bloody murder let me tell you something. According to the scan, the idea of making other instruments for Guitar Hero has been circulating internally through Activision long before Guitar Hero III’s release. You know, I think it might have started around the time that Rock Band was announced and shown. Just a guess.
